Town with an atmosphere of the Edo Period, temple and modern times

The Ueno station(1978)
The Ueno station(1978)

Taito City has full of urban structures, ranging from historic remains from the Edo Period to buildings built in the Meiji, Taisho and Showa Periods, in addition to Kaneiji Temple which was a family temple of the Tokugawa shoguns. The wholesale district in the Asakusa area, which survived the Great Kanto Earthquake (1923) and World War II, retains an atmosphere of streets in the early Showa Period.

An architectural style and social system in the area, in which many craftsmen are living, are quite unique. We will introduce the changing face of Ueno, from its old days to the present, and buildings, from historic wooden houses to Western-style modern architectures. (Taito City)
